Over fishing has been a big problem in this area and effecting the surrounding population of marine life and people greatly. About 120 million people rely on the resources directly from the coral triangle. many different changes such as over fishing, tourism, urbanization and destructive fishing is putting the center for great marine biodiversity under threat. Many different organizations such as WWF are working together to protect this area of thriving ecosystems. The WWF’s work regarding the coral triangle is trying to manage fishing, monitor activities such as trade, and creating more sustainable tourism and aquaculture.

This area of such abundant biodiversity needs to be protected. Having this many different species of marine life is crucial for keeping everything balanced. All the surrounding area and different organizations need to work extremely hard to protect all these species for endangerment. To keep this area thriving is one of the most important things week can do. Global warming and climate change are having effects on all ecosystems, but the things we can control such as over fishing need to be in place.

  1. Wow, I never knew how big the coral triangle was and even what it was. I have heard it before but never knew it contained so many species of coral, fish and almost all of the species of sea turtles which is neat! It also is crazy it sustains 120 million people. I wonder how much the Great Barrier reef sustains or even the reefs we looked at on our trip to the Turks and Caicos. Its great to see organizations in gear to help protect these reefs.
